“Changing Mental Channels
(So You Don’t End Up in Podunk When You Wanted Emerald City)”
***UPDATE MAY 6, 2016
Once the first draft was completed, the fictional part of the story got a new title: THE ART OF COMING BACK TO ME.
They mystery missives that Tandy receives will be available to you under the original title CHANGING MENTAL CHANNELS so you, too, can use the principles of Unconditional Love to moved beyond any obstacle that comes your way.
Here’s what the new book cover looks like for the fictional part of the story:

(Click to jump to that page section.)
Part 1: SET UP (Chapters 1-4) Life is almost perfect for Tandy, and then it’s not.
Part 2: REACTIONS (Chapters 5-16) When life goes out of control, you try to do what you know best…Denial, karmic cleanup, mystery missives, and spiritual power games abound.
(When Part 3 is ready, I’ll post the link here.)
I’m about to do something cuh-razy. It’s an experiment that will include you, if you want to come out and play. (I hope you do!) It won’t earn you money. Won’t make you famous. But it will give your creative energy a chance to be put into the world.
There’s this thing called NaNoWriMo. In signing up, I commit to writing the first draft of a novel—20,000 words a day—in the month of November. That’s a ton, if you could measure words by weight. It doesn’t have to be polished writing. First drafts rarely are. But it does have to be completed, or I’m disqualified.
I was on the fence until I saw the agreement. It made me laugh. Laughter will get me every time.
It’s crazy because there’s a pot load going on in my life anyway. My current novel is in the hands of a professional editor. I’m working like mad on getting “How to Make the Most of Your Earth Experience—14 Principles for Living Unconditional Love” ready for its print version so I can do a proper book launch. (The ebook is already available on Amazon. Go check it out. I linked the title for you.) Reworking the cover. Redoing the mother website divinelightvibrations.com. Conducting seminars. Attending classes.
In short, I’ve barely had time to put on lipstick these days—a big, “Gasp!” from those of you who know me well. It’s true.
With all that going on, how could I possible commit to writing the first draft of a novel in a month? And still share information with the fabulous people on my list about living their innate power of Unconditional Love?
I took it into meditation. Was told to “let it go.” Sigh. Okay.
Then, few hours later, it hit me. Instead of creating characters for the story, why not include readers as cameo characters? Or one(s) invented by them?
Got a huge “YES!” on that. Huh? Then I got it.
“Sometimes you’ve got to let go of an idea… so a better one will come to you.”
Here’s the idea. Take the next how-to book in the series—“CHANGING MENTAL CHANNELS (So You Don’t End Up in Podunk When You Wanted Emerald City)”—and build a story around it using input from my readers.
CLICK HERE to create a cameo character in three minutes. I’ll include her/him in the story.
Heads up: there’s a cut-off date to your entry.
Yet, my Divine Soul Knowing said, “Do it.” So I am. The story might stink the big one, or it might be amazing, but you don’t know until you try, right? Here’s what I’ve got so far.
“Don’t you hate those voices in your head that come from people in your past? Do this. You can’t do that. Oh, here’s the worst one: Follow your dream.
What if I don’t HAVE a dream? Then what?”
After a bad break up and with her job hanging by a thread, Tandy takes to the road to find her own voice, discover her real dream, and hopefully save her sweet butt in the process. Along the way she meets a cast of characters that both help and hinder her discoveries of how to get her life back on track. If it ever was in the first place.
I’ll post chapters and bits as I write them. That way, you’ll read about the Principles of Unconditional Love (aka: Divine Light Vibrations) in action, how to listen to your Divine Soul Knowing, and still get the meat of the original book.
CHARACTER SKETCHES created by readers:
Four readers hit the cut-off time to fill in the form and create a quick character sketch. I promised I’d include their character in the story. Here’s what they gave me:
Working with what they gave me was so much fun, I expanded on it to where these “cameo characters” became real players in the story.
- One becomes a new friend who goes on the road with Tandy.
- One becomes her bitchy boss in high heels and lacquered nails painted blood red, and who claims to be a Spiritual Master.
- One becomes a catalyst character who inadvertently opens Tandy’s eyes to her own failings.
- One becomes a shadowy “Mystery Man.” We don’t know who (or what) he is until the end of the book.
Stay tuned as I post chapters as they unfold. Right now, 4,000 words in, I have different scenes written out of order.
